Why a dynamic Segment is different to a static Segment.
When you add a Segment to the Campaign Canvas you have two configuration options. These are shown below as options A & B.
Option A – A static Segment is the default.
The Static Segment will deliver your emails to the number of people in your segment when the campaign is first activated. If your segment contains 23,456 contacts, 23,456 emails will be sent.
Option B – A dynamic Segment behaves differently.
You’ve probably had the experience where you launch your e.g. event registration campaign and the sales team come to you five minutes later and say “We need these other 14 people to be invited”. What do you do?
If you had selected option B before you activated your campaign, you could simply go to the Segment and then add those 14 contacts to the Segment. They would then automatically flow through to the Campaign Canvas within the re-evaluation time period you had selected e.g. once every hour.
TIP: You may want to adjust the Scheduling of the email that follows the segment to ensure it’s delivered within a time frame that suits your audience. e.g. Mon – Fri and between 8:30 am – 5:30 pm.

Understanding the impact of Campaign Start & End dates on your Insight reporting.
I met with a client recently and they shared an excel spreadsheet they use to list all of their active campaigns. I was puzzled, they can see this in Eloqua at the My Eloqua home screen and it’s always up to date. However, in their instance, it was not.
Why?
Like all campaigns, digital or otherwise, an Eloqua campaign has a start date and an end date. By default, Eloqua sets your end date to 12 months beyond the start date, this is not ideal and produces sloppy reporting.
A common misconception by Eloqua users is that Insight will cease capturing activity data on the date your campaign ends. This is not the case. Eloqua will continue to capture activity and attribute that activity to your campaign assets and the campaign members for 12 months following the end date of your campaign.
What’s the solution?
It’s quite simple, you need to manually assign an end date to your campaign. As a general guide, the end date should be the day after the final email would be sent. Or, the end date reflects the date when the offer contained in the campaign expires or is no longer relevant.
The result of more accurate campaign start and end dates.
When you extract reports from Insight or view campaigns on Dashboards within a defined date range, you will only see active campaigns for that period. Now that has to be a good thing.
Accessing Insight Campaign Reports directly from the Campaign Canvas.
Insight provides you with 200+ reports to help you analyse the performance of your campaigns. Sometimes you simply need high-level campaign performance stats. You can access the Campaign Analysis report directly from the Campaign Canvas.
